Biker Chic
For D's past 3 birthdays she's gotten bike related gifts from us. 1st Birthday: Radio Flyer trike, 2nd Birthday: balance bike, 3rd birthday: bike with pedals. We've been lucky and happy that she's taken to riding bikes in whichever fashion with passion, being that it seems we're almost pushing the sport on her. This year was the big year--seeing if the balance bike really did what it was supposed to--teach her to ride a bike with pedals without training wheels. I was hesitant at first and thought it was a little mean to rob her of the comfort of training wheels. But she could totally handle it! It has taken a few months to get her to really like it and I had hopes that I was going to put together a video montage of the process. But as I can't seem to find the time for it, I'm posting this exciting milestone at it's end stages. She still has some work--stopping/breaking is still precarious and she doesn't get started on her own. But she's getting there and she's really excited for family bike rides where nobody has to help her. I must say it has been incredibly exciting. We are so proud of her and she is so proud of herself that sometimes she's snorting with happiness as she rides!
