Introducing Milo Roberto Lasky

Milo Roberto Lasky
Arrived October 18th, 2011 at 1:01pm.
8 pounds, 12 ounces
20.5 inches

His Name
Why Milo? Mostly because we like it. Dahlia also preferred it to the other names in the running. The "M" in Milo honors Matt's grandfather, Max Lasky. This is a jewish naming tradition of using the first initial of a deceased relative that we wanted to follow. Matt didn't know his grandfather very well because he passed away when Matt was 3, but the shining qualities that Matt's dad remembers about Max are integrity, fairness and toughness. We hope Milo will weave those qualities into his personality with ease.

Why Roberto? Roberto was Kelly's grandfather who passed away in 2010. Roberto's son, Kelly's uncle who passed away in 2000, was also Roberto. Both of these men carried traits that make the name Roberto a very noble and strong name. Roberto (senior) is remembered as being brilliant, dedicated, and proud. Roberto (junior) is remembered as being kind, loving, and loyal. Put all of these characteristics into one person and it's some powerful stuff!

His Birth, in a nutshell
Labor was long! My water broke at 11pm on Sunday night, contratctions started about 2 hours later and Milo didn't get pushed out until 1:01pm on Tuesday. That's 36 hours! But not all of it was hard and not all of it was active labor. Through every second Matt was as supportive as ever, "push, push, push, push, push" I heard lovingly in my ear for hours and our doula, Jaime coached us through the entire experience with care and compassion. We had a lot of laughs, too! We can thank the epidural for that. The birth was nothing like I'd planned but it produced my beautiful baby boy all the same. And he's one healthy, big guy! I am now a successful VBAC mama and am very proud of that, too.
Amidst hour 3 of pushing, I spiked a tiny fever and because of that, Milo ended up getting "admitted" into the NICU for 4 rounds of antibiotics over 48 hours. He was able to be with us during those 48 hours and only had to go to the NICU to receive his treatments and we could hold him while he got them so it wasn't so terrible. He handled the ordeal like a champ. Everything ended up being totally fine and he didn't end up having needed the anitbiotics. But you'll notice his little IV site and wires in pics so that's why they are there.
We went home on Thursday and are loving getting to know how our little family works! We cannot believe we now have 2 amazing babies in our lives. Dahlia is doing great and absolutely adores her baby brother.
